The drug is also used for coronary stent coating, which prevents the occurrence of re-stenosis in the arteries. It’s also used to treat cancer in many forms. Studies show that it enhances the immune system of a cancer patient and helps to reduce the growth of certain tumors. Tuberous Sclerosis Complex is a rare congenital disorder that can cause tumors to grow in areas like the brain, kidneys and heart in addition to other organs. Rapamycin is given to decrease the TSC in both children and adults. There is a lot of research that is still in process when it comes to Rapamycin and what else it may prevent. Currently, they are studying the effects of the drug on those who suffer from Alzheimer’s disease and muscular dystrophy.
