Livio Bisterzo and his team set out on a venture to create a snack that is “better for you”. No boundaries could be set as they had to look outside of the box and get away from the norm when it came to health foods and snacks. Hippeas was born. In mid 2015, after working with a food innovation company, the finished product, Hippeas was ready to be launched. Several rounds and several consumer tastings later, Hippeas was ready. Consumer response has been phenomenal with great feedback and positive reviews.
Chickpeas is the base ingredient, which posed some challenges with taste, shape, and texture. Chickpeas is a high protein and fiber pea that is versatile in ways it can be marketed. Bisterzo didn’t want to steer to far from what consumers are accustomed too, but he also wanted to step outside of the box as well. He created the go to, healthy snack for the busy consumer. Bisterzo’s company has partnered with Farm Africa. This lets them give back by supporting chickpea farmers in eastern Africa.
Starbucks, one of the retailers carrying the brand, Hippeas, is always on the lookout for new snacks. Consumers often voice their opinions letting them know what they would like to see on the shelves. This is why Starbucks welcomed the Hippeas brand. Amazon is another retailer that is selling the Hippea brand.
